Are you concerned you are living with chronic nosebleeds, but you are unsure of what may be causing them? Is your sleep impacted by snoring or other breathing complications, but you are unable to pinpoint the reason why? Do you feel like you are constantly fighting off sinus infections? The nasal passages and surrounding areas can be affected by a variety of concerns that make a larger negative impact on your overall health and daily life. Rhinoscopy is a diagnostic tool to examine these areas to help identify the cause of your healthcare concerns. Learn more during a consultation with Columbia Asthma & Allergy Clinic at one of our locations in California, Oregon, or Washington.
What Is Rhinoscopy?
Rhinoscopy is a procedure that provides a closer look and visuals of areas around the nasal passages. Areas inspected include:
- Vocal cords
The ability to obtain visuals of these areas allows for the detection of abnormalities. Abnormalities may include blockages, polyps, structural defects, and more.
Upon identifying these concerns, rhinoscopy may also be used to treat many concerns. The thin, flexible tubes may also be used to perform tasks such as assisting with removal of polyps, dispensing antibiotics, or draining blockage or fluid.
What Could I Expect from a Procedure?
During a rhinoscopy procedure, local anesthetic is applied to the areas that will be examined. Suppressents may also be used to reduce gag reflex. A member of our team will gently insert the thin scope into the nostril. This scope will be used to examine areas of concern.
Further treatment may be immediately recommended following rhinoscopy, but samples may also be collected for further diagnosis and examination. For example, if there is excess fluid, gentle suction may be used for removal.
There is no set downtime with rhinoscopy, and treatment sessions are typically short. You should be able to return to your normal daily activities. Results from any treatment will vary for each person and condition.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you are living with frustrating nasal conditions or concerns, you may benefit from a rhinoscopy procedure. Not only can this treatment be utilized as a diagnostic tool, but it may also be used for treatment if necessary.
A consultation at one of our clinic locations can help ensure this is the best diagnostic tool or treatment for you. Choosing this treatment is one of the most efficient and effective ways to potentially diagnose a variety of nasal conditions, and it is safe for most people.
