Eye Allergies

Many people live with itchy, watery, or red eyes throughout part of or most of the year. These eye irritant symptoms are likely related to an allergy in your environment. Your eye discomfort could be the only symptom but can also be associated with sneezing and/or a runny nose. Eye allergy symptoms are often caused by:

  • Airborne allergens such as pollen, dust, mold, and pet dander
  • Medications such as antibiotics and anesthetics
  • Contact lenses or proteins that accumulate on the lens
  • Genetic condition (keratoconjunctivitis)

Common Symptoms of Eye Allergies

In addition to being red, itchy, and watery, other eye symptoms that may indicate an allergic reaction include:

  • Swelling around your eyes
  • Foreign body sensation (like something is in your eye)
  • Discharge from your eyes

Eye Allergy Testing and Treatment

At Columbia Allergy we understand that it can be difficult to go about your day-to-day activities when your eyes are uncomfortable. Our team can perform allergy testing to determine the causes of your eye symptoms. An individualized treatment plan will be created that may consist of medicated eye drops, artificial tears, subcutaneous immunotherapy (allergy shots), or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT). You may also be a candidate for our ultrasound-guided intralymphatic immunotherapy (ILIT) treatment in Fremont, California that can provide faster results!
